Tips from experienced Leaders!
1. Create a "Community Agreement" or "Group Agreement"
2. Create a sense of tradition (opening and closing circles, learning the promise,
compliment circles, etc.).
3. Develop a feeling of connection among the girls to you and each other.
4. Use passive discipline (give exact directions, keep girls occupied, preferential seating &
direct eye contact.)
5. Use the buddy system to break cliques and to maximize each girl's strengths.
6. Make a Troop Kaper (Job) Chart.
7. Treat all girls equally and emphasize their strengths.
8. Help girls learn to respect each other.
9. Use the WOW technique to resolve girl conflict.
10. Use an agenda to keep your meetings and girls focused and productive.
11. Used time warnings...give 5 and 1 minute warnings between activities.
12. Praise them. Praising positive behavior will cause other girls to repeat it, as well as
building self esteem.
13. Be flexible.
14. Use the new Journeys program!
15. Incorporate the Discover, Connect, Take Action principles into earning all GS badges!'
16. Remember Girl Progression - let them lead as appropriate!!!
