Training for New Leaders
Before your first meeting:
Class #1 - Girl Scouting 101 (On-line, 45 minutes)
This online presentation from GSUSA is your first step to Girl Scouting! Learn more about volunteering with Girl Scouts and the basics of the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience before taking Getting Started.
Class #2 - Getting Started (Classroom, 2 hours 15 minutes)
Getting Started must be taken by at least one leader before starting to work with girls, and is a prerequisite for the Jump into Journeys workshop. Participants learn the basic knowledge needed to get started with their troop, including:
1)The elements of a meeting
2)Recommended content of the first few meetings
3)Available support options and resources
4)Basic information about safety and troop finances
Before or after your first meeting:
Class #3 - Jump into Journeys (Classroom, 3 hours)
Have fun looking at the Journey materials; experiencing several Journey activities; seeing girl-led, learning by doing and cooperative learning in action; and exchanging ideas for customizing Journeys. Jump on in!!
Visit the Girl Scouts Western Washington Troop Leader - Learning page to register for classes. If you are already part of SU440, you have the option to contact your SU point of Contact for a local Getting Started course though please register yourself for Girl Scouting 101 and Jump Into Journeys.
Service Unit 440 is coordinating classes on the following dates 6:30 pm-8:45 pm at Sunny Hills Elementary School. (Remember that new leaders can register for any class offered by Girl Scout Western Washington; these classes have been scheduled locally for your convenience.)
